Windows 8 Touch Keyboard

Windows 8 Touch Keyboard allow us to interact directly with computer using fingers. It will be useful on the go, if we use touch-screen computers, tablets, etc. But people can use touch keyboard or traditional keyboard and mouse in Windows 8.

Here I like to share with you about what I had seen in Windows 8 Touch keyboard. Just I have to share that how to use this feature completely. It includes various screenshots, settings, changing languages, etc.

You can dock or undock with window. And also you can stretch or size of touch keyboard, depending upon your finger size. If you want bigger size keys, you should not dock with window.

keyboard layouts are shown below :

Windows 8 Touch Keyboard has three types of keyboards.

1. Standard keyboard
2. Split-screen keyboard
3. Handwriting Recognize

Detailed screenshots are below.

 1. Standard Keyboard
This is keyboard layout normally we will use.  Various keyboard layouts of Standard Keyboard are shown below :

a)            Normal Keyboard layout (Alphabets)
b)            Numbers and Standard Symbols Layout

c)            Other Symbols Layout

d)            Icons Layout

2.            Split-Screen
You can also use a split-screen keyboard with letter or other characters split between the left and right sides of the screen. This makes thumb-typing a lot easier, who uses like ipad, android devices. For PC users, this will not be useful.

Language Option

To change or add language in touch keyboard, select the languages from Input Method. Select more than one languages, if you need. You can switch the language in Touch Keyboard.

Control Panel -> More Settings -> Language - > Language Option -> Input Method.

3.            Handwriting Recognize

This will be very useful for Non-professionals.
I just tried with mouse.  Here is the result. Yeah.. It is working fine. You can insert these sentence or line to your documents by INSERT.

By default, character recognition is working both in Freehand-writing and writing each characters separately. If you like to write each characters separately in all time, you can set option Write each character separately from language options. This option provides better result than default.

Control Panel -> More settings -> Language -> Languages options -> Handwriting -> Write each character separately.

Now some of the languages only optimized for Touch Keyboard.  They mentioned next to language in settings.

We can train handwriting recognition as per our writing methods, to produce best output. If its not recognizing a word frequently, we can also say that in settings below the previous option.

Editing options are shows below :
a)  Correcting :

You can edit these text by click on that word. When you click on that, letters will appear separately. Now you can re-write above the letters also. And it will also suggest different words similar to that.

b)         To delete a word, just strike through it.

c)         To split a word, just draw a vertical line between that two letters.

d)         To join two words, just draw like 'U' below the characters.

Here are some settings for Touch Keyboard :

Thank You.

Notes :  Touch Keyboard EXE file location is : "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\taptip.exe" in Windows 8.

  2. Correction: the filepath is actually C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tabtip.exe ("tab" like "tablet"). I was able to easily get to it in the Desktop app by adding it to the Taskbar as a toolbar.

My question, however, is how do I get it appear in the Metro UI on a non-touch PC? I have a HTPC that I control using a remote mouse, and I'd prefer not to have to keep a keyboard plugged in for occasional text input. I can pin the above program to the Start screen, but it launches into the Desktop app whenever I start it. Is there a Metro version of this tool, and how do I force it? Clicking in a text field doesn't seem to do the trick. Any ideas?
